Queen Charlotte Yacht Club offers Learn to Sail Courses utilising qualified Club Instructors. Participants must be at least 8 years old, able to swim 50 metres and be confident around the water. A parent or guardian will be expected to be present to assist their child.
The course costs $215 (incl gst) per sailor. Over the three days you will receive 12 hours of tuition (mostly on the water but this is weather dependent) on sailing an Optimist dinghy. You will also be taught about boat care, the "rules of the road" and sailing etiquette.
Once you have successfully completed the training course and have demonstrated the ability to handle the yacht in a safe and competent manner you will be able to use one of the QCYC optimists on Club Days and at other times providing there is adequate supervision previously authorised by the QCYC Sailing Committee.
Your course fee also entitles you to enter Club Racing on a Saturday afternoon for the remainder of the season.
Adult Learn to Sail Courses are also offered at various times throughout the sailing season.
