Welcome back to the 2010/2011 sailing season.
Oddies Spring Regatta
Well done to all those who took part in the pre-season Oddies Spring Regatta. The weather treated you all kindly, even if it was a bit light and patchy to begin with. Things would have been a lot more lively if the regatta had been sailed the following weekend! It looks as if the Optimist and Starling fleets will be large this season and should generate some good competition.
Coach Neeta
Neeta arrives at Blenheim airport tomorrow, Tuesday September 21st at 3.50pm, and we all look forward to having her back.
Opening Day
Opening Day is this Saturday, September 25th with racing beginning at 12 noon. Prior to racing is a short Opening Day address by Patron and Life Member Phil Chandler, which is followed by the traditional firing of the canon. Members are reminded to bring a plate for afternoon tea. For those members who attended the AGM there is also a short Special GM in the late afternoon for the purpose of accepting the financial report for the 2009/10 sailing season.
Club Subscriptions
A reminder to members that subs are due and this year it will pay to be in early, as these will increase from November 1st. See the QCYC website for membership forms.
75th Anniversary
2011 is a special year for QCYC – our 75th Anniversary. The Club is assembling an organising committee, for which we need 6 volunteers. If you, or someone you know, is enthusiastic and able to contribute to this milestone event please contact William Yates on 027 577 8866 with nominations.
Social/Dinner at QCYC
On October 30th Maree will organise another of her superb dinners, so plan to stay on after sailing and enjoy the ambience of QCYC (and not having to cook).
QCYC Member Achievement
Taylor Burn is off to Langkawi, Malaysia in December to represent NZ in the IODA Optimist World Champs after qualifying 3rd in the National Optimist regatta held recently. We wish him well.
Some Requests
From the Sailing Committee, they need to know who has a current First Aid certificate or is a registered nurse. A list will be available in the kitchen for names and will be kept by the first aid supplies.
From Maree, our kitchen/bar co-ordinator (and raffle-runner extraordinaire) - a request for yummy treats and foodstuffs (that will keep for a few months) to make up a laden wheelbarrow raffle as our major Xmas raffle fundraiser.
Also from Maree, a request for donations of any surplus bowls and other useful kitchen utensils to boost the fairly short supplies of some of these things in the kitchen. See Maree if you have surplus things that might fit the bill.
From Carolyn Burn – A fundraising dinner/auction is to be held in Auckland for Taylor and his team mates to help raise the considerable amount needed for their trip to Malaysia. Carolyn would welcome any donated bottles of Marlborough wine by club members who would like to support Taylor. These will be used at the dinner or sold at auction.
Cheers
Allison
