Christmas Barbecue and Party

This was well attended by members young and old and a great time was had.  Thanks to everyone who contributed to the occasion, decorating the club, organising the food and Santa, organising and sailing in the fun races, dressing up etc etc.

Second half of season under way

The last two Saturdays have been quiet with many people still on holiday or at National Champs.  Thanks to those who have come along to get the club humming again for a busy few months.

Tomorrow (Saturday Jan 22) is the second part of the Short Course Series which began on November 27.  Racing starts at midday, so aim to be early.

Interisland Opti Challenge / Laser 4.7 Series

This is to be held from February 18 - 20.  It is our main event for the season and a major fundraiser for QCYC, so we urge all members to volunteer for the many jobs up for grabs.

Volunteers are required for jobs with food, on the beach and in rescue boats.

All sailors of other classes of boat will also find jobs around the Club during this time.

Volunteers will be welcomed with open arms.

QCYC has a reputation among the yachting fraternity for wonderful hospitality and good organisation.  Let's all pull together to make the regatta a success.

Look out for a sign on sheet at QCYC over the next couple of weeks.

Christmas raffle

There was a hiccup with this and it was unable to be drawn in time for Christmas, but will be drawn in the next week or so.  You will hear the result very soon.

Opti Coaching Clinic

This was a very useful three-day clinic organised by Ian Gardiner and attended by most of our Opti sailors and a few from Nelson.  Another world-class coach Ian, whose input was especially valuable for our less-experienced sailors. Great work.

Club Member Activities

It's been a busy time for members since I last wrote a  Splash so it will be a quick run - through of who has done what.

We are proud of our members who get out and fly the QCYC flag in regattas around the country and the world, whether our sailors gain a top placing or not.

Top placings were not gained by our sailors this time around, but every regatta brings new experiences and new sailing contacts.

Stuart, Jason, Declan and Josh represented QCYC at the South Island Laser Champs in Nelson on Dec 11-12.

William and Rachael sailed the Starling Nationals in Napier at New Year and Rachael represented our Club in the Starling Match Racing.

Alastair represented us in the Tanner Cup, also in Napier in the New Year.

Hamish Clark went to Noumea to an Opti Coaching Regatta (I believe).  Correct me if I'm wrong Hamish.

And...Taylor sailed in the Optimist Worlds in Langkawi, Malaysia.  The conditions were flukey, but he finished a creditable 28th.  Great work.

That's it in nutshell.  We wish you all well for the rest of the season.

Thanks to our supporters and sponsors...
