Interislander Opti Challenge / Laser 4.7 Traveller Series

Just a couple more days to go before the big event.  Big thanks to all those club members who have worked long hours to make it a success.  Remember that there are still opportunities to contribute, so come on down if you have some time.  It's a great opportunity to work and socialise alongside and get to know better some people you may not normally see at the club.

Ian Gardiner says that for some newer Green Fleet sailors who would like to experience sailing in a bigger fleet, but would just like to sail the Saturday races, by all means let him know, and some adjustment can be made to the cost for you.

Kaiteriteri Regatta

This is coming up rapidly on March 12-13 and is a great opportunity for club members to spend the weekend in a relaxed, fun and (hopefully) sunny location.  Get in quick to make bookings at the campground located directly opposite the beach.  We're hoping for most people from the club to make the effort to go and enjoy this fantastic area not so far from our back door.

Club Member Activities

* SIAG

Eighteen sailors represented our club in the optimist and starling fleets.

In quite challenging conditions, both windy and light, QCYC sailors put in good performances, most finishing in the top half of their fleet.

Five sailors gained top three placings in their respective age groups, with Alastair Gifford and Troy Gratton the best of them, finishing second in the open optimist division.

Angus Dysart-Paul gained a third place in the optimist green division, as did Rachael Clark and William Gifford in the starlings.  Good efforts everyone!

* Timaru Age Group Champs

It was quite a long haul for the 4 young green and open optimist fleet sailors who represented QCYC at this regatta. They were Nico van Beek, Troy Gratton, Nicholas Gardiner and Henry Gibbs. By all accounts they enjoyed the racing and all finished in the top ten in their fleets.  I don't have the exact results, as Timaru don't publish these on their website, but I hear that Henry won his age group.  Great work!

* Laser Radial Nationals / Laser 4.7 Nationals

Sailed in Auckland, in conditions extreme in terms of much wind and almost no wind, Declan and Taylor Burn were our representatives in this regatta.

Taylor was sailing his first major regatta in the 4.7, having just recently made the move from the optimist and still managing a very creditable 3rd.

Declan found the opposition tougher, and competed in some races where the wind was more extreme than the 4.7 sailors were asked to sail in.  He represented us well and finished 14th.  Well done Declan and Taylor!

See you at the club.
