Interislander Optimist Challenge Regatta

We can all be proud of the way everyone worked together to make this a very successful event.  Visitors were highly impressed by the food and wine, the beautiful surroundings, hospitality, great weather and of course the sailing.  It wasn't always great for sailing with the lack of wind meaning that not all scheduled races were sailed, but it was a series and at least there was no tsunami.

Congratulations to all the QCYC sailors who represented our club.  You did us proud.

Well done to those who made the podium - Henry Gibbs, Tim Rutherford, (Green fleet) Alastair Gifford, (Open fleet) and Taylor Burn ( Laser 4.7)

South Island Opti Champs ( Timaru)

A group of hardy sailors contested this regatta in rough and cold weather.  The sailing was quite a distance offshore in a large swell, which caused some seasickness.

Nevertheless, Henry Gibbs sailed well to take honours in the Green Opti fleet, while Hamish Clark (2nd) and Alastair Gifford (3rd) were prominent in the Open Opti fleet.

Great work QCYC.

Kaiteriteri Picnic Regatta

Thirty five yachts from QCYC, Nelson and Christchurch sailed in this regatta.  The sun shone, the sea sparkled, and the breeze blew steadily from the north.

Those of us on shore were entertained by a posse of police cars and patched bikies when they cruised into town.

The campground barbecue area was a good gathering place for our Saturday night shared meal and with the downing of a number of beers and wines there were plenty of tales and lies told.

Alastair Gifford headed home with the Idle-along Cup, as he was the regatta winner in the class with the greatest number of boats, the Optimists.

We're looking forward to next year's Picnic Regatta already.

Bollywood

Held on the Saturday night in the middle of our QCYC Club Champs, there was a great turn-out of members to farewell Neeta in her final season with us.

Neeta, Margaret and others did a marvellous job of decorating the clubhouse.  The food was really delicious, and the entertainment memorable.  Costumes were great, and Carl, Troy, the van Pallandt girls and Debs were worthy winners.
